DIG Harmanbir Singh Gill of Jalandhar Range in Punjab raided Tanda police station in Hoshiarpur on Tuesday. When he reached the police station, the DSP and SHO were reportedly sleeping in their quarters. Not only this, only the assistant clerk was present in the police station and that too without his weapon.
Due to this, the DIG showed displeasure and suspended SHO Tanda Sub Inspector Raman Kumar. He asked to take action against the DSP. Apart from this, an explanation has been sought from the SSP of Hoshiarpur.
DIG Harmanbir Singh Gill first reached the clerk's room and spoke to the control room via wireless set. After this, DIG Gill told the control room to inform the SSPs of all three districts (Jalandhar, Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur) that I have reached Tanda police station for checking today.
The DIG said that at around 7:30 in the morning, only the assistant clerk was sitting in the police station. The roll call of 8 am was missing. SHO and DSP Tanda were found in their respective quarters. There was absolutely no manpower in the police station. There was a female undertrial in the police station, but no female employee was present in the police station.
The DIG took action and said that for now he is putting the SHO of Tanda police station on the line. Action will be taken against the DSP and an explanation call has been made to SSP Hoshiarpur.
Punjab police stations have been attacked, yet it was lying vacant. All the police stations in Punjab have been ordered to always remain on alert, because there is always a threat of attack on Punjab police stations due to terrorism. Police stations in many districts including Jalandhar, Mohali, Tarn Taran, Amritsar have been attacked earlier as well. About 6 years ago, there was a grenade attack on Maqsudan police station in Jalandhar. That attack was carried out by Kashmiri terrorist organization Ansar Gajwat ul Hind (AGH). RPG attack was carried out in Tarn Taran and Mohali, which was carried out by Khalistan terrorist Lakhbir Singh Landa in the year 2022.
Also, last year, Khalistan supporters and Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh and his associates had attacked Ajnala police station and freed their associate. The accused in all the cases have been arrested. In such a situation, the absence of any employee in the police station during the raid conducted by the DIG today raises questions on security.
DIG Gill gave these instructions to the police stations of Jalandhar Range
- Action should be taken against the suspected persons under Section 109 CRPC.
- Ensure that all the pending cases which are going on for more than one and a half years are resolved.
- Complete the investigation in POCSO Act / rape cases and ensure that the report under Section 173 CRPC is submitted to the courts within 60 days.
