Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal today reviewed the actions being taken by various departments to prevent drug abuse during a meeting of the Narco Coordination Center. He invited all stakeholder departments to actively participate in awareness activities against drugs.
During the meeting with the stakeholder departments here at the District Administrative Complex, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized spreading awareness about the harmful effects of drugs. He obtained information from education department officials about the awareness activities being conducted in educational institutions against drugs and emphasized that students should be made more aware of the harmful effects of drugs.
Dr. Aggarwal encouraged the departments of education, sports, technical education, Red Cross, and skill development to actively participate in the fight against drugs. He instructed the officials to spread awareness about the menace of drugs during the programs conducted by their departments.
He also emphasized providing skill training and employment opportunities to drug victims to bring them back into the mainstream of society. To completely eradicate drugs, the Deputy Commissioner urged the health and police departments to work in better coordination. He instructed the police department to increase vigilance against drugs and keep a constant watch on sensitive areas. Additionally, he directed regular checks of medical stores.
Appealing for public support in the anti-drug campaign, the Deputy Commissioner said that anyone can provide information related to drugs by contacting the toll-free number 112 or bringing it directly to his attention. He assured that the name of the informer would be kept confidential. Meanwhile, he also reviewed the functioning of drug de-addiction centers in Jalandhar/Noormahal and Sheikhe village.
SP Jasroop Kaur Bath and officials from various departments were also present during this meeting.
