In a prompt and decisive action, the Jalandhar Rural Police arrested three individuals involved in a violent clash between two rival groups in Ughi village. The incident occurred late last night near the Jalandhar-Kapurthala border, prompting a thorough investigation by the police.
The arrested individuals are identified as Gurpal Singh, son of Manjit Singh, residing in Sidhwan Dona, Kapurthala; Balkar Singh, son of Jaspal Singh, also residing in Sidhwan Dona, Kapurthala; and Nazir Gujjar, resident of Awadan, Jalandhar. The five more nominated in the case.
The clash resulted in injuries to two individuals. Kulwinder Singh, also known as Kindi, son of Charan Dass, a resident of Kala Sanghian, sustained critical injuries and unfortunately lost his life. Another individual, Jatinder Kumar, son of Sham Lal, from Kular, Kapurthala, suffered gunshot wounds and is currently receiving treatment at Shri Ram Hospital, Jalandhar.
Senior Superintendent of Police Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh commended the prompt response of the Jalandhar Rural Police, noting that the arrests were made within hours of the incident. "Our teams acted swiftly to prevent further escalation and to ensure that those responsible were apprehended," SSP Khakh stated. He also highlighted the on-going efforts to maintain peace and stability in the region, especially considering the history of conflict between the groups involved.
The investigation revealed a long-standing rivalry between the two groups, with previous FIRs registered against both parties. FIR No. 122/22 under Sections 324 and 326 of the IPC is currently under trial, while a new FIR, No. 79/24 under Sections 323 and 324 of the IPC, has been registered in connection with this latest incident.
During the investigation, the police recovered a Swift car, two Mausers (.32 bore), and eight rounds of ammunition, which are expected to play a crucial role in the ongoing inquiry. The arrested individuals will be presented in court, where their remand will be sought to facilitate further investigation.
SSP Khakh mentioned that the Jalandhar Rural Police is committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety and security of all residents, with additional arrests anticipated as the investigation continues.
