In a major breakthrough, the Jalandhar Rural Police have busted a fabricated robbery case within hours of its reporting. The incident, allegedly involving a theft of Rs 2 lakh in the Nakodar-Malsian area, was found to be a staged act orchestrated by two finance company's employees in an attempt to misappropriate company funds.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Surjit Singh, a resident of Nakodar, and Sam, from Adampur, Jalandhar. They have been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including provisions related to cheating and criminal conspiracy.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Jalandhar Rural, Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh, stated that the police received a distress call on the emergency helpline 112, reporting a robbery on the Nakodar-Malsian road. "Our Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) team immediately reached the scene. SHO Shahkot, SHO Nakodar, and the CIA staff team initiated an investigation under the supervision of DSP Nakodar," he said.
As the investigation progressed, a thorough review of CCTV footage revealed that no such robbery had occurred, shifting suspicion on Surjit Singh, who had falsely reported the crime to divert company funds. During the preliminary investigation, both individuals confessed to fabricating the robbery, believing they could escape without consequence.
Further investigation uncovered that the employees had intentionally torn their clothing to simulate a violent robbery, intending to split the stolen funds equally. The swift action by the police led to the exposure of the plot and the full recovery of the misappropriated amount.
SSP Khakh commended the ERV teams for their vigilance and prompt response, which were instrumental in intercepting the culprits and preventing the misappropriation of company funds.
In a stern message to the public, SSP Khakh warned against spreading fake news or providing false information to the police. "Such actions not only waste valuable police resources but also create unnecessary panic in society. We urge citizens to be responsible and report only genuine incidents," he emphasised.
