The activity of the Municipal Corporation in Jalandhar seems to be bucking up. The zero-tolerance against illegal activities has started in reality and now it does not just remain on the papers. It was on Monday night when all the illegal constructions in the Pratap Bagh and Gujral Nagar were sealed by the Corporation officers. Reportedly, as soon as the information regarding the illegal construction of showrooms was received, a notice duly signed by the Commissioner was sent to the owners but it was not given any heed.
The orders of sealing and shutting down the illegally built stores as soon as the notice period expires were given by Davinder Singh, Corporation Commissioner. According to the information received some of the shops were itself constructed by the corporation, but the shop owners started vandalizing the area and constructing more shops illegally. Till now 3 shops in Pratap Bagh and one showroom in Gujral Nagar have been sealed.
The same incident took place in the last week as well when one shop cum flat was sealed due to being illegally constructed by the officials of the Corporation, but doesn’t look like other showrooms which have notice took this seriously and have to harvest the result now. The officials when reached the spot, official papers of the extra construction were asked and as the owners of the showrooms were unable to present them, the shops got sealed.
Also, three constructions in the Naaz Cinema Hall, Kalamandir Children's Restaurant and Matoshree Dastar are illegal. The sources have revealed that an illegal construction notice has also been issued to the owner of LK Property Pvt Ltd. This construction was near the site of the now-closed famous Naaz Cinema Hall.
The Municipal Corporation has clearly stated that it has begun its investigation regarding the illegal construction and if the owners show no concerns after receiving the notice, their shops and showrooms will be sealed.
