Jalandhar's Budget 2025-26 of Rs 531 Cr to be tabled tomorrow; New Food Street, amended tax on marriage halls & more proposed

Vaneet Dhir, the newly appointed Mayor of Jalandhar Municipal Corporation (MC) will hold the first MC House meeting on March 20, 2025. The Jalandhar MC House meeting will take place on Thursday at the Red Cross building in Jalandhar at 3 pm. The notification regarding this was issued on March 17. All councilors have been asked to reach the Red Cross building by 2:30 PM. In this regard, Mayor Vaneet Dhir said that the budget for the years 2025 and 2026 has been prepared after discussions with the officials. It means the Jalandhar Budget 2025-26 will also be tabled in the meeting. 

As per reports, a total of Rs 530 crore will be distributed in various sectors for the development of Jalandhar. Below is a breakdown of the Jalandhar Budget 2025-26-

Sources in the known development informed True Scoop that out of Rs 530 crore, Rs 174.34 Crores will be allocated for development projects and the rest to pay salaries and machinery bills. Notably, the revenue collection target in the budget made by the officers last year was not met.

The new House inherited only Rs 64 lakh in the corporation's treasury. A major proposal for cow cess collection has been made in the Jalandhar Budget 2025-26. Within the limits of the Municipal Corporation, non-AC marriage palaces will pay Rs 500 per party and AC marriage palaces will pay Rs 1000 as cow cess.

Apart from this, Rs 1 will be levied on the sale of every bag of cement and Rs 200 on the sale of two-wheelers, which will directly go into the corporation's account. Until now, Rs 1000 cow cess was going into the corporation's account on the sale of cars.

Apart from this, there has been a 10% increase in Teh Bazari fees. 17 parking spaces in the city will be given on contract. Their revenue targets have also been increased.

The budget for the previous financial year was Rs 440.46 crore. In the upcoming budget of Jalandhar, the focus is on sewerage, water, street lights, streets, and neighborhoods.

On the other hand, changes have also been made regarding Teh Bazari in the Municipal Corporation's budget this time. Teh Bazari fees will now be Rs 2000 to Rs 3000 on different roads.

Rs 100 will be collected daily from each cart in Kisan Mandi. Rs 3000 in Model Town, Guru Amardas Chowk to PPR Market, Bus Stand, Court Road, Patel Chowk, Rama Mandi. Rs 2000 in Shri Devi Talab Mandir, in front of MC office, Namdev Chowk to Skylark Chowk, MC office to Bhagat Singh Chowk, Mai Heeran Gate, Sodhal Mandir, Satguru Namdev Chowk.

If there is a fast food cart in places with Rs 2000, then Rs 3000 will be charged. Rs 1000 in other places outside the corporation's list.

Focus on Minister Mohinder Bhagat's Constituency

Work on roads and beautification in the Surgical Complex and Leather Complex has been approved. Rs 42.22 lakh to complete the work of Satguru Kabir Bhawan building on 120 Footi Road, Rs 48.60 lakh for remaining work in Satguru Ravidas Bhawan, Rs 24.46 lakh rupees to build a library in Bhagwan Valmiki Hall.

Street vending zone will be built at Babu Jagjivan Ram Chowk for Rs 3.50 crore.

Old issues of residents to be addressed

Ikhari Pulli sewerage remains closed due to blockages. A new sewerage disposal will be built for Rs 31.49 lakh. The work on the disposal was pending in the previous government due to opposition to the land.

A park will be built in the pond in these neighborhoods. The disposal is open from above. A slab will be put on it. Currently, about Rs 4-5 lakh are spent on technical advice.

Bio-mining will be done for Rs 10 crore. Roads, sewerage, and street light work will also be done.

A food street will be built in Nehru Garden for 1.21 lakh rupees. Tourism will be developed. Also, 11 new employees will be hired on contract in the corporation's workshop. Their work will be to wash vehicles and machinery and fix punctures. Rs 21.35 lakh will be spent on salaries. There are also proposals for transfers of permanent employees.
