The newly-elected Jalandhar MP Sushil Kumar Rinku arrived in Delhi on Sunday to meet with Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) supremo and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal at his house. He was accompanied by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Rinku won the Lok Sabha by-election by a landslide victory, securing 58,691 votes.
During the meeting, Kejriwal praised the AAP's performance in Punjab and appreciated the efforts of Mann and Rinku in developing Jalandhar. He stated that Rinku would raise issues related to Punjab in the Lok Sabha and become AAP's voice in the Parliament. Kejriwal added that the party would continue to work towards the betterment of Punjab and its people.
Rinku thanked Kejriwal by presenting him with a bouquet and assured him that all the promises made during the by-election campaign would be fulfilled and assured that work has already started. He also stated that a roadmap for the development of Jalandhar has been initiated.
The victory in Jalandhar Lok Sabha by-election is an important milestone for the AAP as Congress has been winning continuously for the past five elections since 1999, and this win signifies that people are now looking for a change. Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann stated that AAP's campaign was based on issues related to the welfare of traders, farmers, and laborers, and not on religious or caste-based politics. The party was seeking votes on the promises of establishing 'School of Eminence,' zero electricity bill, infrastructure development, and more.
During the meeting, Kejriwal stated that AAP would continue to work towards the betterment of Punjab and its people.
The Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat has nine Assembly constituencies, and the AAP won four out of the nine seats during the 2022 Assembly elections. However, during the recent Lok Sabha by-election, the party won by a huge margin, securing a Lok Sabha seat.
