Multiple cities of Punjab on Sunday continued to observe low temperatures as predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The IMD on Saturday issued a red alert across North India including Punjab that states' temperatures will dip even more due to the cold wave. Not only this, but the IMD flagged a warning that Punjab may Ground Frost, the first in the State's history due to a massive drop in the temperature. While many cities of Punjab have been witnessing severe cold, Jalandhar is among the chilliest states. On Sunday, Jalandhar shivered at 4 degrees Celsius as registered on Apple's Weather App.
Jalandhar's lowest temperature nosedived to 4 degrees before 8 am on Sunday. Interestingly, when True Scoop News checked the temperature of Himachal Pradesh's capital Shimla during the same time interval, it found out that the hilly capital was shivering at 5 degrees Celsius. It means Jalandhar was cooler as compared to Shimla on Sunday.
The Meteorological Department, Chandigarh, has predicted that there will be dense fog during night and morning hours from 14 to 16 January. Ground frost warning has been issued for the first time in this winter season. Ground frost refers to the freezing of water on objects and plants and turning it into ice. In most parts of Punjab, the minimum temperature has dropped by 3-4 degrees and bone-chilling cold has started. At the same time, there is a possibility of dense to dense fog for the next few days due to which the life of people is likely to be severely disrupted.
