Two blasts within a gap of five minutes shook the high-security technical area of Jammu airport in the early hours of Sunday, informed officials. The blast took place on the intervening night of June 26-27, first at around 1.45 am tearing off the roof of a building at the technical area of the airport guarded by the Air Force and the second one occurred on the ground.
The Defence PRO official statement asserted that no security personnel was injured during the blast nor any damage was caused to equipment.
"Two low-intensity explosions were reported early Sunday morning in the technical area of Jammu Air Force Station. One caused minor damage to the roof of a building while the other exploded in an open area. There was no damage to any equipment. Investigation is in progress along with civil agencies," a defence spokesperson tweeted.
The area was sealed by security forces within the munites of the explosion and Police and forensic teams are present at the location to determine the cause of the two explosions. While massive search operation is on, the investigation is being carried out from all angle.
According to sources, NSG’s Bomb Data Team and an NIA team have headed to the Air Force Station.
Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has spoken to the Vice Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Harjit Singh Arora, regarding the incident.
Two drones were used to attack the Air Force base in Jammu, while the use of UAV in the explosion cannot be ignored, sources said.
Was a drone used to release an IED payload inside the airport’s high-security zone to cause the blast is being investigated by the security agencies, however, drones cannot be detected through radars.
"A drone seems to have been used to drop IEDs. This was not on the periphery but near the helipad area,” said a source.

A high-grade meeting has been called at the Air Force station where senior police and Indian Air Force officials are present.
Jammu airport is a civil airport with a runway and the ATC under the IAF.
