At a time when Punjab authorities are bracing up to conduct voting for Lok Sabha Elections 2024 on June 1, an encounter took place in Jalandhar between AGTF and a Jammu-based gangster. As per reports, an encounter took place between the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of the police and a gangster from Jammu in Jalandhar. Jalandhar Rural Police surrounded gangster Rohit Rana alias Makhan. After which he fired 4 bullets at the police. Then he hid in a house. After cross-firing with the gangster, the police arrested the gangster, Rohit Rana.
Thereafter, Rohit Rana was brought to Bhogpur police station. Initial investigation revealed that gangster Rana had murdered Sub Inspector Deepak Sharma in Kathua, Jammu. Since then he was absconding.
How Gangster Rohit Rana was arrested?
Late Wednesday evening, the police got input that he had come to a village named Mumandpur in Bhogpur. After which the police surrounded him by setting up a trap. However, he started firing and hid in a house to escape. After which the police surrounded the house from all sides. After this, in the cross-firing, gangster Rana got shot in the leg. Finally, the Police arrested him. Currently, the police are interrogating him in the Bhogpur police station. His mobile details are also being investigated to find out how he came here and who are his acquaintances.
AGTF AIG Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar was quoted saying that gangster Rohit Makhan is a resident of Jammu. He had connections with gangsters from Punjab. The criminal had also shot dead a sub-inspector in Kathua. The criminal was hiding in Punjab. The criminal was searched for a long time in collaboration with Jammu Police.
It is being investigated which gangsters of Punjab he has connections with. The criminal was living in Bhogpur for the last 10 days. The son of the elderly couple in the house where Makhan was living lives in Armenia. Makhan was living with them saying that he would take care of them. The police are investigating the matter.
Accusations against Rohit Makhan
According to the police, gangster Makhan has enmity with Vicky Sattewala. Makhan had killed a person due to the same rivalry. He managed to escape from the scene. He had left his car there. The police recovered the car from the spot. Makhan's driving license was also found by the police. Jammu Police started investigating his driving license in the Nawanshahr area.
The police have registered a case against Makhan in police station Kathua on 2 April 2024 under section 307/302/341, 3/25/27 Arms Act under IPC. A few days after the case was registered, Makhan had again gone to Jammu with one of his associates to get a new SIM card. When the police surrounded him there, he opened fire on the police.
During the firing, a bullet hit SI Deepak Sharma. He died during treatment. In the case of the murder of SI Deepak Sharma, the police of Ramgarh police station have also registered a case against the criminal for firing under sections 302/148/149/212/120-B PC, 3/4/25 Arms Act.
