Speaking on the occasion of 'gurta gaddi divas' of Guru Hargobind Singh at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, the Jathedar recalled that the Guru Hargobind had propagated the concept of 'Miri-Piri' and the community should follow it.
The Jathedar also advised the Sikhs to regularly recite Gurbani which will give them inner power to fight evil. This will also help the youth stay away from drugs.
Giani Harpreet Singh also asked the Sikhs to learn horse riding, gatka, and the use of the sword as per traditions.

BJP leader Harjit Singh Grewal has termed the statement of the Jathedar as unfortunate that was aimed at helping the Shiromani Akali Dal which stood rejected by the people.
