Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani today made major announcements at the company’s Annual General Meeting 2021. Amid coronavirus pandemic, the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the oil-to-telecom giant was conducted virtually.

In the virtual meeting, the company announced several deals and introduced the Saudi Aramco Chairman Yasir Al Rumayyan on the board of the Reliance industry. He will join as an independent director.

Here are the highlights of Reliance AGM 2021

Addressing the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the oil-to-telecom giant, Ambani also commended the company and its employees for the humanitarian efforts during the pandemic.

''As Reliance climbs new summits of success in its onward journey, it will also cross new milestones in being a caring and empathetic corporate citizen. But believe me: The Best of Reliance is yet to come,'' said chairperson Ambani.

In the Annual General Meeting, Ambani announced that JioFibre has become India’s largest and fastest-growing fixed broadband operator.

There will a new partnership between Jio and Google cloud which will help more than a billion Indians to connect to faster internet. “It will support businesses in digital transformation and lay a foundation for the next phase of digitization of the country,” said Sundar Pichai.

“Jio is not just making India 2G-mukt, but also 5G-yukt,” said Ambani in the AGM 2021.

In the meeting, the company unveiled the ‘most affordable smartphone’ JioPhone Next. It will be available in the market from September 10. JioPhone Next is ultra-affordable, powered by an optimized version of Android OS.

“I am pleased to announce that Google and Jio teams have jointly developed a truly breakthrough smartphone – JIOPHONE NEXT. It is a fully-featured smartphone supporting the entire suite of applications from both Google and Jio,” said Mukesh Ambani.

Meanwhile, “Reliance Foundation has partnered with USAID to launch the Women Connect India Challenge. This partnership aims to empower women with digital access,” said Nita Ambani.

Further, Nita Ambani added, “Company’s Mission Vaccine Suraksha is one of India’s largest vaccination drives which has so far vaccinated 20 lakhs of company employees.” The vaccinated people count also included retired employees, partner employees and their families. The vaccination is done free of cost.

Nita Ambani assured there will be no salary or bonus cut due to the covid 19 pandemic.

Jio Institute will begin the session next year, said Nita Ambani. “Despite the pandemic, I am pleased to announce that Jio Institute is all set to begin academic sessions at campus in Navi Mumbai this year itself,” she added.

“We remained committed to Education and Sport for All. We also worked hard to bring our dream project ‘Jio Institute’ to life”, Nita Ambani added.

The Company launched a new Covid testing lab.

Further addressing the shareholders, Reliance Foundation Chairperson Nita Ambani outlined the steps taken by the foundation amid the pandemic. She said that Reliance now produces 11 percent of India's overall medical-grade oxygen.
