In what came as a surprise for millions of OTT lovers, Jio on Friday launched its merged app with Disney Plus Hotstar- JioHotstar. With JioHotsta's launch, it is now the largest platform in terms of subscriber base and users. On Friday morning, JioHost, a recently formed joint venture from the merger of Viacom 18 and Star India, announced the launch of JioHotstar. This platform was created by bringing together Jio Cinema and Disney Plus Hotstar, which are two of India's leading OTT platforms for sports, entertainment, and more.
If a user opens the Disney Plus Hotstar app, he/she will be directed straight to the new version of the streaming app i.e. JioHotstar. However, when you visit the Jio Cinema App, it still remains the same. As a result, many OTT lovers may be wondering what will happen if he/she is a Jio Cinema's prime customers when all the content of both platforms is already available on JioHotstar. JioHotstar new plan or JioHotstar New Tarrifs
JioHotstar claims to have about 3 lakh hours of entertainment and more than 50 crore users. It will soon replace the old subscription plan with the new plan. Last week, the old Jio Cinema Premium subscription was stopped for all users. From this, it was speculated that the new platform will have different plans and slabs.
JioHotstar is set to redefine entertainment with a wide and diverse content slate designed for 1.4 billion Indians in 10 languages. From TV programs loved around the world, and reality entertainment to blockbuster films, anime, and international premieres, JioHotstar will offer new content to viewers.
Jio Hotstar will offer the best of Hollywood content with Disney, NBC Universal Peacock, Warner Bros. Discovery, HBO, and Paramount. JioHotstar has also launched a new initiative called Sparks. Major cricket tournaments like IPL, WPL, and ICC events will also be on this platform. Viewers will also be able to watch Premier League, Wimbledon, and domestic leagues like Pro Kabaddi and ISL.
Talking about JioHotstar Tariffs, it will be almost similar to the company's older OTT app version. TOI reported that JioHotstar subscription plans start at Rs149 for three months with ads, while an ad-free premium tier is available at Rs 499.
What will happen to Jio Cinema Prime Users?
As mentioned above, last week, the old Jio Cinema Premium subscription was stopped for all users. Reports suggest that the JioCinema app will be phased out, and existing subscribers of both JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar will automatically transition to the new app once their current subscriptions expire.
