Jitendra Singh Moti Bhatia has become the new mayor of Amritsar from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Additionally, Priyanka Sharma has become the senior deputy mayor and Anita Rani has become the deputy mayor. In Amritsar, which has a total of 85 wards, a majority of 46 councillors were required for the mayor.
In the elections, the maximum number of councillors, 40, were elected from Congress. A total of 24 councillors of Aam Aadmi Party had won.
Congress had claimed the support of 41 councillors. However, despite being the largest party, Congress failed to make the mayor.
Jitendra Singh Moti Bhatia said, "I thank the leadership of Aam Aadmi Party and the MLAs who supported me. I will work on the basic issues of Amritsar. The issue of cleanliness and sewerage in the city will be resolved soon."
Jasbir Singh, MLA from Amritsar West, said, "We congratulate the leadership of Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab because AAP has got a mayor in Amritsar. AAP has honoured Moti Bhatia as the mayor. Bhatia has won the election with a majority. We congratulate him."
Aman Arora has shared a post on X, congratulating them. The post reads, "Heartiest congratulations to AAP Punjab for winning Amritsar Muncipal Corporation by winning all 3 posts of Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor & Deputy Mayor."
