Delhi: Jamia Millia Islamia suspends professor for communal act, fails 15 non-Muslim students

A Jamia Millia Islamia professor had deliberately tweeted about failing 15 of his non-Muslim students to which public showed their resentment on social media which made the university authorities to take action against the professor. However, the varsity affirmed that it has suspended the professor.

On Wednesday, Abrar Ahmad, an assistant professor at Jamia University had said on twitter that he has chosen to fail 15 non-Muslim students who didn't support the agitated protests against the newly amended Citizenhsip Act (CAA).

Notably, the university has announced his suspension along-with ordered for probe into the matter.

In a tweet Jamia University has said, " Dr. Abrar Ahmad, Asstt Professor of @jmiu_official tweeted in public domain as to failing 15 non-muslim students in an exam. This is a serious misconduct inciting communal disharmony under CCS CONDUCT RULES. The university suspends him pending inquiry."

On Wednesday, the professor tweet promptly triggered people on Twitter calling for action against him saying such communal behaviour cannot be tolerated at a national university.

The Jamia Millia Islamia University has seen protests over CAA, NRC and NPR since December. On December 15, the protests turned violent and Delhi Police barged into the university premises and allegedly beat up students.

Ever since December, the protests outside the university gates grew in large numbers but now it has been called off now over threats of deadly coronavirus spread.

Jamia University has been the epicentre of anti-CAA protests since December when the brutal police action on students triggered nationwide outrage and universities across the country were up in arms to protest against the government.
