Jawaharlal Nehru University will reopen from November 02, 2020, in Phased manner. The college will reopen in Phases and in the first phase the final year PhD research scholars, including 9B students and project staff members who need laboratories and special centres to work and submit their thesis will be allowed to visit the university.
The JNU Students' Union (JNUSU) has been demanding a phased return of research scholars to the campus and has been on an indefinite protest at the university's gate since Saturday.
Official statement reads
"University will be opened in a phased manner with effect from Monday given the pandemic situation, only for final year PhD Research scholars, including 9B students and project staff who require laboratory access only in science schools and special centres," said the statement issued by JNU administration.
The statement also added that in the second phase which will begin from November 16, hostels will also start functioning.
How will students get access to JNU labs?
Students will have to get a certificate signed by their supervisors mentioning that their thesis requires a laboratory to complete their work.
The hostels will be opened only if the initial reopening phase goes successfully well.
The subsequent phases for reopening the campus will be worked after reviewing the first two phases, the university said.
Instructions for faculty JNU members
Deans, Chairpersons of Science schools and centres will have to submit an action plan or reopening laboratories after October 21 and the deadline for the same is October 24.
They would have to share names and contact numbers of students and staff members to the Deans and Chairpersons.
Important guidelines to be followed inside the campus:
- The university's central library will remain closed in both phases.
- Canteens and dhabas will also remain shut.
- Students who will be joining the college after November 02 will have to fill a mandatory self-declaration form and submit.
- The students and professors must download the Arogya Setu app.
- Students will be asked to quarantine for seven days after arriving in Delhi, for those arriving from outstation.
- Social gathering will not be permitted at any part of the JNU campus.
- Meetings may be conducted only in online mode.
- Social distancing norms must be maintained inside the labs.

Persons found violating the guidelines and Covid-19 safety protocols will be subjected to face disciplinary action.
