Prime Minister Narendra Modi who landed in Washington for a three-day visit that starts from today, was greeted by a large number of Indian-Americans at Joint Base Andrews in Washington DC. He stepped out of his motorcade to interact with Indians waiting at the airport.
Following the greetings, Modi on his Twitter handle accredited how the Indian community for distinguishing itself across the globe.
This is Modi’s first visit abroad since the Covid-19 pandemic onset in January 2020.
"Grateful to the Indian community in Washington DC for the warm welcome. Our diaspora is our strength. It is commendable how the Indian diaspora has distinguished itself across the world," PM Modi tweeted as he shared a few pictures from Washington.

The joyful crowd were seen chanting Modi’s name and the Indian tricolour was waved, at the same time, the Indian Prime Minister was all smiles and shaking hands with members of the Indian diaspora.
On Wednesday, PM Modi posted a photo of himself going through a heap of documents while he was on his way to the US. In the picture, he was spotted with a suitcase and files on the seat next to him.
Captioning the picture, he wrote, "A long flight also means opportunities to go through papers and some file work.”
At Washington DC airport, Modi was received by Department of State officials including T H Brian McKeon, US Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources at Joint Base Andrews. He was also greeted by India’s Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, along with the Defence attache, including Brigadier Anoop Singhal, Air Commodore Anjan Bhadra and naval attache Commodore Nirbhaya Bapna.

What’s on Narendra Modi’s schedule?
After assuming office in 2014 as the Prime Minister of India, this would be his 7th visit to the US. During this three-day tour, he will be addressing the UN General Assembly, attend the Quad Leaders' Summit and hold a bilateral meeting with US President Joe Biden at the White House tomorrow. This would be the first in-person meeting between the two leaders since Biden took charge as the US president on January 20.
He will also be meeting vice prescient Kamala Harris.
Before leaving for the US, Modi said his visit will mark as an occasion to strengthen Global Strategic Partnership and result in strong ties with the US, Japan and Australia.
