The Jullundur Gymkhana Club is all set to go for polls on
December 19 this year. The two groups namely, The Achievers and The Progressive
will be contesting elections. The members of the Achievers group in an
exclusive conversation with TrueScoop talked about their previous achievements
and future goals.
Tarun Sikka (contesting for Honorary Secretary), on being
asked why people should vote and support the Achievers group, said, “In last
two years, we worked for the club by keeping in mind that a member should feel
proud and a guest should feel honoured when entering this club. And, somehow,
we feel that we are lucky that God was so kind to us that we were able to
fulfill all our achievements. During Covid times, when everything was shut, we
still kept on working. My teammates were serving continuously for the
betterment of the club. We started with RFID cards and members also accepted
them well”.
“Our vision is still clear and we know what the future
demands are; we will accomplish our goals. We will create a basketball court,
skating ring and lawn tennis court with World-class amenities. We are also
planning to build a new club lounge for the members of the club. People used to
question our capabilities to run the club, now, the same people applaud our
achievements and call them exemplary!! I feel members will vote for us as they
are smart enough to select the right group for the club”, he added.
Amit Kukreja (contesting for Vice-President), said, “Achievers
group worked in such a manner that people will remember us for a long time.
During Covid, people were scared to leave their homes, but, my whole team
worked really hard."
"This is the best team I have worked with so far. We have
built three restaurants and two gazebos, improved the quality of food, built
new badminton courts, and brought new machinery in the gym," he added further.
Saurabh Khullar who won elections last year, from the
Progressive group for the post of Joint Secretary, has again nominated his name
for the same post, but, this time from the Achievers Group. He said that the
major reason for changing the group is he feels like family with the Achievers
group.
On being questioned about what steps have been taken for the
welfare of the members, SPS Virk (contesting Treasurer), replied, “We have
waived off subscription fee for the members whose parents are above 70 years
old."
"They can come and enjoy the facilities without paying any miscellaneous
charges. We are trying to create a kids zone with modern equipment so that kids
can enjoy themselves, " he said.
So, Achievers’ past achievements speak for themselves. Their
power to develop and deliver is likely to bring them in power again.
