Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann after coming to power in 2022 has come up with many schemes and policies that have greatly benefited the people on the ground level. However, Bhagwant Mann's government's Sadak Suraksha Force has taken Punjab's road safety policy to the next level.
The Road Safety Force (Sadak Suraksha Force) started by Bhagwant Mann is proving to be a boon for Punjab. The Road Safety Force is formed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to save lives in road accidents is showing excellent results. Due to this force, more than 1000 lives have been saved. Apart from this, this force has delivered more than 60 lakh cash to the homes of people injured in accidents. Sadak Suraksha Force has been formed to prevent road accidents in Punjab and 5000 policemen have been put on duty. The uniform of this force is different from the common police.
Punjab Sadak Suraksha Force
To strengthen road safety, security has been increased on more than 5500 km of national highways, state highways, and major district roads. About 150 state-of-the-art vehicles have been deployed to prevent vehicle traffic violations. Sadak Suraksha Force is an effort of the Punjab government to reduce the loss caused by road accidents. This is saving many lives every day and the state will also get rid of the economic loss of Rs 18,000 crore annually. Accidents have been reduced by 25%.
Based on the 2004 census, the number of traffic police in Punjab was only 2048, which the current government is increasing through new recruitments. After the deployment of the force, 59 percent of road accidents on highways passing through rural areas of Punjab and 4 percent in urban areas have been prevented. A report says that the relentless efforts of the SSF have dramatically decreased the number to just 1 or 2 deaths per day in an accident.
What's new in Punjab Sadak Suraksha Force?
The Sadak Surakhya Force has got a fleet of 144 ultra-modern vehicles in the first phase to monitor the roads efficiently. These vehicles include 116 Toyota Hilux and 28 Mahindra Scorpio which will be deployed after an interval of every 30 kilometres to monitor the roads. A team of four cops headed by officer not less than rank of ASI, as patrol incharge, will be there in the vehicle.
These vehicles have been equipped with ultra modern gadgets like speed guns, alchometer, e-challan machines and AI-enabled smart mechanisms to check the violation of traffic rules. They will also have a recovery van along with command and control centre-enabled real-time CCTV cameras. Likewise, there will be road crash investigations and mechanical engineers, civil engineers, and IT experts for handling technical assignments.
