"Twitter stands for freedom of expression. We stand for speaking truth to power. And we stand for empowering dialogue," tweeted Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter back in 2015. Now this particular tweet is re-tweeted by actress Kangana Ranaut.
In a quote tweet, Ranaut reacted, "No you don't, Islamists nation and Chinese propaganda has bought you completely, you only stand for your petty gains. You shamelessly show intolerance for anything other than what they want. U (You) are nothing but a little slave of your own greeds. Don't preach again (,) it's embarrassing."
Her quoted tweet, however points towards micro blogging site's content moderation standards but it comes days after the American president Donald Trump was banned indefinitely from using Twitter and Facebook. However, Ranaut didn't explain further which Islamists nation or what Chinese propaganda she tweeted about.
In a similar vein, people from across the globe have revisited Dorsey's tweet. One of the Twitter users @jessiprincey replied, "You mean suppressing dialogue." Another user, @Rashtra_Sevika_ replied, "Twitter stands for communist and communism. Twitter stands for CCP." Twitter users also responded to Kangana's quote tweet. One of the users @felixmakwana tweeted, "Power dia hai bolne kana, Bhadkane ka power nai, And no Fake news and dange Karao." (It has given you power to voice free speech, not to incite or inflame and no fake news and pogroms.)
After the ban on Trump from using social media
platforms, the debate concerning freedom of speech has again started trending. People
ranging from politicians, actors and other users have started discussing the
growing power of big tech and social media giants while many users are flocking
to another platforms after Twitter started moderating its content.
