(Report by Ashish Puri) Kapurthala police have claimed to have arrested 4 gang accused of highway robbery with recovery of cash and gold worth rupees eight lakhs.

SP D Ramninder Singh said that the accused have confessed to 7 incidents of robbery. The said robbers used to carry out incidents of robbery and theft to fulfill their intoxication. At the same time, the police have also recovered cash worth Rs 1.70 lakh, gold ornaments worth Rs 8 lakh, two bikes and two datars from the arrested robbers.

SP D Ramninder Singh told in the press conference that under the supervision of DSP D Barjinder Singh and CIA Staff Incharge Jarnail Singh, ASI Harwant Singh had blockaded Adda Miyani Bakarpur on July 16. Meanwhile, secret information was received that Sajan Singh resident of village Rawan, Surinder Singh alias Yada resident of village Talwandi Kukaan, Jagjivan Singh alias Jeevan resident of village Kukan Takiya and Amanjot Singh alias Aman resident of village Kukan Begowal have formed a gang of robbers. All the four accused carry out incidents of robbery and theft day and night on the highway, link road with the help of sharp weapons. These people have carried out many incidents of dacoity and loot in Begowal and Dhilwan areas.

ASI Harwant Singh immediately nabbed the accused along with the police team. Investigated the case registered on July 16 in the police station Dhilwan. These four revealed many incidents. Police recovered Indian currency and datar worth 70 thousand from their possession. On their tip, one lakh rupees and two bikes used in the incidents were also recovered.

According to SP D Ramninder Singh, these four robbers used to loot to fulfill their intoxication. Accused Aman had also carried out the theft incident at his maternal uncle's house along with his companions.

SP D Ramninder Singh further told that the arrested robbers confessed during interrogation that on June 29, they extorted 1.70 lakh from a shopkeeper in Begowal, on April 25 they extorted 96 thousand from a passer-by in Haibatpur village and on April 26 from Mohalla Kucha Cantt. Apart from theft in Basti Bawa Khel Jalandhar, earrings were snatched from the ears of passers-by at various places. Robber Aman stole cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 2.50 lakh from the house of his uncle Balwinder Singh, resident of Kukan village.
