Kartik Purnima is an auspicious festival held on the Purnima of the Hindu month of Kartik. Kartik Purnima date falls between the months of October and November. Kartik is regarded as the holiest month of the Hindu calendar.

 

The full moon is also known as Tripuri Poornima. It is believed that on this day Lord Shiva destroyed the demon Tripurasura. Since then, the full moon coming in the Shukla Paksha of Kartik month, worshiped by the name of Lord Shiva Tripurari, is called Kartik Purnima. It is also considered auspicious to donate lamps on this day.

 

The festival of Kartik Purnima lasts for five days. It begins on the day of Prabodhini Ekadashi or Dev Uthani Ekadashi and ends on the day of Kartik Purnima.

Significance of Kartik Purnima

Kartik Purnima is of utmost religious and spiritual significance. It is believed that devotees on this day are blessed with immense fortune if they worship Lord Vishnu and perform Kartik Snan. Kartik Purnima is also a holy day to perform auspicious activities as the activities performed on this day can bring fruitful results, happiness, and joy. Some people also believe that Kartik Snan in the Kartik Month is equivalent to 100 Ashvamegha Yagya.

What should be donated on Kartik Purnima?

If you want, you can donate food, milk, fruits, rice, sesame and gooseberry. On this day Brahmin, sister and aunt must be given clothes and Dakshina according to their reverence. This day is dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, so donating sweets made of akshat, milk and coconut is considered auspicious. People can also donate lamps on this day as it eradicates all the troubles from a person’s life.
