Headed by CM Pinarayi Vijayan, the Kerala government has decided not to impose the proposed National Population Register (NPR). This comes after the Kerala state government moved the Supreme Court of India against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and also passed a resolution against the law.
The government said the Census Registrar General will be informed about the decision and that Census will be done as per norms.
The Kerala General Administration Department had last week directed all officials to ensure that the National Population Register (NPR) is not mentioned while sending communications on Census 2021.
Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday slammed Centre over the controversial CAA, NRC and NPR and said the state would not implement the 'whims and fancies' of the RSS, but would uphold the values of the Constitution.
Pinarayi Vijayan, addressing a massive anti-CAA rally, said that the Left-ruled state would never implement the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the National Population Register (NPR).
