Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, Kesari Chapter 2 is inspired by the true story of an Indian-origin barrister named C Sankaran Nair and his court battle against the British crown over the infamous Jallianwalabagh Massacre in Amritsar, Punjab. For the unversed, Advocate Nair sued General O'Dwayer and the British crown for genocide as shown in the movie.

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar plays the protagonist, C Sankaran Nair, R Madhavan plays Adv. Neville McKinley, Ananya Pandey play Advocate Dilreet Gill, and Jaipreet Singh plays a Punjabi revolutionary poet named Kirpal Singh. Since the movie is based on a true story, fans are digging deep into the real-life Dilpreet Gill, or who was real-life Jalandhar Lawyer Dilreet Gill, played by actress Ananya Pandey-

Who was Dilreet Gill, played by Ananya Pandey?

Going by the movie, Dilreet Gill hailed from Jalandhar, Punjab, and studied law during the British Raj as she was inspired by Advocate C Sankaran Nair. Dilreet Gill saw Nair played by Akshay Kumar for the first time when he visited Kirpal Singh's house, when his son was killed and showcased by the British as a suicide. Despite writing guilty in the commission's report, Dyer was declared not guilty of committing genocide in the Jallianwala Bagh.

When Nair was about to return home, Dilreet confronted him and accused him of being responsible for the murder of Kirpal Singh's son. Thereafter, Dilreet met Nair at the Jallianwala Bagh site. The story then took a turn when Dilreet Gill sued the crown and General Dyer for genocide in Jallianwala Bagh. Later, it was found that Nair was the Co-Counsel in the case.

Is Dilreet Gill's character inspired by real life Jalandhar advocate?

The answer cannot be determined. As per an India Today report, the British asked the Hunter Commission to examine the “disturbances” in India linked to the Jallianwala Bagh. However, not one but three Indians were a part of the committee. Moreover, C Sankaran Nair was not one of them. During their investigation, the Hunter Commission inquired about the allegations against General Dyer, and on the basis of their findings, he was relieved of his duties. Since the British controlled the media and wiped out any writings that were against them, it may be possible that the mention of real-life Dilreet Gill has also been omitted from the history books. However,  True Scoop cannot verify this.
