Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab Government has taken a plethora of big decisions in the last 7 days. The State Government has come in action mode especially against corruption after AAP's debacle in the Delhi Elections 2025. Mann Government has made it clear to the DCs, SSPs, and Commissioners of Punjab to identify and take strict action against corrupt officials. A day after this direction, the Mann Government suspended Muktsar Sahib Deputy Commissioner (DC) over corruption charges and also directed Punjab Vigilance Bureau to take action against him. Bhagwant Mann's latest crackdown against corruption is being carried out after the cabinet meeting. Below is a list of key decisions that the Mann Government has taken in the last 7 days-
1. February 14: The government issued directives to DCs, SDMs, SSPs, and SHOs to take strong action against corruption or face disciplinary measures.
2. February 17: The Punjab government has appointed ADGP G Nageshwar as the new Vigilance Bureau Chief. The same day, the Muktsar Sahib DC was suspended after allegations of corruption, and an investigation by the Vigilance Bureau was ordered.
3. February 19: Fifty-two police officers were suspended on the charges of corruption.
4. February 21: The Punjab government transferred 21 IPS officers, including nine district SSPs, as part of a reshuffling to improve law enforcement. During this, Dhanpreet Kaur Randhawa became the first female IPS officer to be Jalandhar's Police Commissioner.
5. February 21: The government also dissolved the Administrative Reforms Department to further streamline administrative processes. To be precise, all 236 law officers on the Punjab government’s payroll had to submit their resignation, after being asked to do so by the government. As per Indian Express, Advocate General Gurminder Singh confirmed that all law officers associated with his office have tendered their resignations. “However, these resignations have not been accepted yet. For the time being, they will continue at the post till the entire (AG) office is restructured,” the AG said.
These decisions mark a major shift in the state's approach to governance and anti-corruption efforts.
