As Jalandhar got its new Mayor Vaneet Dhir a few months back, the city is expected to witness fast-paced work on the ground. As per reports, a major infrastructure project in the city worth Rs 808 crores will resume. The work of laying pipes and constructing underground water tanks that will bring water from the Sutlej River to Jalandhar will kickstart in the coming days.
Mayor Vaneet Dhir held a meeting with the company representatives recently, during which a deadline was issued to the company that the work of digging the roads should be started within 10 days and the work of laying the pipes should be completed within the next 100 days, i.e,. by 30 June.
After the mayor's deadline, it is believed that in the coming days, many main roads of the city will be dug up to lay pipes under this project. It is clear from this that this project will remain a headache for the city for the next few months, but it is certain that if the company works at a fast pace, then the work of the project can also be completed soon.
The contract for this project was awarded to the L&T company, which was tasked with laying pipes on a 98-kilometer stretch of road, in addition to constructing five underground water tanks and a treatment plant. However, so far, the company has only completed pipe laying on 48 kilometers of road. The remaining 50 kilometers of roadwork is expected to be completed in the next 100 days, though it remains uncertain whether this will be achieved.

He said that after that, the rainy season will start, due to which the soil, etc., excavated due to the digging will settle down. After the rains, the work of building these roads will be started on a war footing, for which approval of Rs 32 crore has been received from the Jalandhar Smart City Company. All the processes related to road construction have been completed, so the city residents will get the facility of roads after the rainy season. The company has also been told not to start two works at the same place so that people do not face traffic related problems.
