In order to swear in Amritpal Singh, the MP chosen from Khadoor Sahib, the Punjab government submitted an application to Om Birla, Speaker of the Lok Sabha. In light of this, radical sikh preacher and Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh, has been granted four days of parole starting on Friday, July 5. Amritpal will take an oath as MP during this period. Currently, he is being held at the Dibrugarh jail in Assam under the National Security Act (NSA).
Similarly, Kashmiri politician Sheikh Abdul Rashid, also known as Engineer Rashid, currently detained in connection with the 2017 Jammu and Kashmir terror funding case, will take the oath as MP with the approval of the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Rumours say that Amritpal will take an oath in this case the day after tomorrow. They will both take their oath in the Speaker's room, based on information recieved. The government and the agencies have given them the all clear. Nevertheless, neither Amritpal's family nor his attorney are aware of this.
Amritsar Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said that Amritpal Singh has been granted parole for 4 days from July 5 under certain conditions. The Dibrugarh Jail Superintendent has been informed regarding the same. Currently, Amritpal Singh is locked up in Dibrugarh Jail under the NSA. Amritpal Singh has been granted parole under the condition that within these 4 days the process of taking the oath has to be completed. A team of Punjab Police has left for Dibrugarh Jail.
Independent Faridkot MP Sarabjit Singh Khalsa also held a meeting with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla at Parliament. During this meeting, Sarabjit Singh spoke about the oath-taking of Amritpal Singh, the winner from Khadoor Sahib. In this meeting with Om Birla, it was decided that Amritpal Singh is arriving to take oath in Parliament on 5th July 2024.
