Khalistan supporter MP Amritpal Singh's brother Harpreet Singh arrested with drugs by Jalandhar Police

Khalistani sympathiser Amritpal had garnered a lot youth support by running an anti-drug campaign in Punjab, which led to his Lok Sabha elections' victory.

Jalandhar Police have arrested Harpreet Singh, brother of pro-khalistan MP from Khadoor Sahib, Amritpal Singh, for possession of drugs. Harpreet was arrested by the Jalandhar Rural police near Phillaur while in possession of ice drug (methamphetamine). Khalistani Amritpal Singh had been in the limelight for running an anti-drug campaign in Punjab.

According to reports, 4 grams of ice has been recovered from Amritpal's brother Harpreet Singh. Harpreet was arrested along with Lovepreet and Sandeep Arora. The three arrested were in a car with tinted windows on the side of National Highway from Phillaur to Jalandhar, which the police found suspicious. Upon inspection, the three accused were found to be in possession of the drugs along with lighters. After this, he was also given a medical check-up late at night. Sources also say that Harpreet was intoxicated at the time of his arrest. However, this has not been confirmed by the authorities yet.

The arrest of Amritpal's brother Harpreet Singh has been confirmed by SSP Ankur Gupta of Jalandhar Rural Police. SSP Ankur Gupta said, “We have arrested Harpreet and further information will soon be shared. We have recovered ice from Harpreet.” The amount of drugs seized has not yet been revealed.

Amritpal, originally from Jallupur Kheda village in Amritsar, had returned to Punjab from Dubai in 2022 after the death of Punjabi actor Deep Sidhu, who came into the limelight due to the Red Fort violence. Coming here, he became the chief of Deep Sidhu's organization Waris Punjab De. After this, Amritpal started an anti-drug campaign in Punjab. He even opened a drug de-addiction center in his village Jallupur Kheda. Amritpal also started an anti-drug wave in Punjab. However, during this time Amritpal started making provocative and pro-Khalistan statements due to which the police took one of Amritpal's associates into custody.

To free him, Amritpal along with his associates staged a sit-in at the Ajnala police station. However, the siege turned violent and Amritpal was accused of attacking the police station following which, Punjab Police registered a case against Amritpal and he was detained in Dibrugarh jail in Assam under the National Security Act (NSA).

There were protests in Punjab following Amritpal’s arrest. Amritpal had decided to contest the Lok Sabha elections due to public demand while still incarcerated. His campaign was pushed by his parents while he was in jail. there was a lot of resentment among the youth towards the AAP government of Punjab regarding Amritpal. Due to this, Amritpal got a lot of support from the youth on the Khadoor Sahib seat. The youth themselves campaigned for Amritpal in his absence which led to his victory.
