The much-awaited horror-thriller series Khauf was released on Amazon Prime Video on April 18, 2025. Created and written by Smita Singh, Khauf is a horror thriller with the story set in New Delhi revolving around a woman named Madhu who shifts to Delhi to be an independent woman, but chaos breaks out after she starts staying in a haunted hostel room. The 8-episode series is although it has no big starcast, but its storyline has kept the fans gripped. Is Professor Anil Mehta's character inspired by a real-life Delhi serial killer?

The answer is no. The character of Professor Anil Mehta shown in the Amazon Prime Video series Khauf is totally original. Professor Anil Mehta is a dark character who has supernatural powers. However, his thirst to achieve more and more supernatural powers that he starts killing women at his workplace in Delhi. Hence, Professor Anil Mehta comes under the scanner of Delhi Police as a serial killer. Interestingly, it was Professor Anil Mehta who was called by the hostel warden to investigate about the truth of the haunted room number 333 in Pragati Woking Women's Hostel in the outskirts of Delhi. 

Interestingly, if you talk about serial killer of Delhi, the name of Chandrakant Jha sits at the top. Infamously known as the 'butcher of Delhi', Chandrakant Jha killed and dismembered at least 18 people in New Delhi. However, as the Professor in Khauf killed only women, Chandrakant Jha did not kill, going by the gender. Also, Chandrakant Jha worked as a hawker in New Delhi while the Professor worked as a local doctor, or let's say Hakkim. Chandrakant Jha is serving life sentence.
