KIIT Student's death in Odisha has sparked a diplomatic row with Nepal Prime Minister KP Oli intervening in the matter. For the unversed, a 20-year-old Nepal resident student named Prakriti Lamsal took her own life in KIIT Hostel. Prakriti Lamsal was studying B.Tech in computer science at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology University in Odisha.
After Prakriti Lamsal's death, a massive student protest erupted at KIIT College led by Nepali students. Fuming students from Nepal blocked the road near the KIIT campus. The students alleged that the university authorities took no action when the victim reached out to the International Relations Office (IRO) at the university, flagging harassment by her batchmate.
Due to KIIT Nepalese Students' Protest, the college administration decided to send the protestors back home. The decision to evict and send back protestors intensified the movement even more. As a result, the administration had to take back the decision. This sparked a diplomatic row as Nepal Embassy got involved and the country’s Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli dispatched two officers there.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Police have arrested a 21-year-old Lucknow resident named Advik Srivastava in the Praktriti Lamsal Death Case. Notably, netizens on social media are fuming after Praktriti Lamsal leaked call recording went viral. Praktriti Lamsal Viral Audio clip is linked to the victim who has been abused over the phone continuously. However, True Scoop cannot verify Praktriti Lamsal leaked audio.
Advik Srivastava Arrested
As per reports, Advik Srivastava was detained from outside the airport on Sunday evening and has been booked under section 108 of the BNS (abetment of s*icide). Indian Express quoted Bhubaneswar DCP Pinak Mishra who informed that after receiving complaint from Siddhant Sigdel, they reached to the hostel where they seized Praktriti Lamsal's laptop and mobile as demanded by the protesting students.
According to the FIR, the complainant suspected the accused was blackmailing his cousin i.e. Praktriti Lamsal which led her to take the extreme step. The report quoted college's IRO who confirms that the students complained against her batchmate flagging harassment & 'misbehaviour'.
