Since last year, the Covid19 induced lockdown has forced educational institutions like colleges, schools and coaching centers to close down in order to break the chain of quickly spreading coronavirus. Students have been waiting for the schools to reopen. ‘When will school reopen in India 2021’ has been the most frequently asked question by students.

Twitter is also flooded with questions about the reopening of schools. Students from Karnataka, Punjab, Bangalore, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and across the nation are eagerly waiting for the schools to reopen.

As the Covid19 curve in the country is on a decline now, several states are expected to resume physical classes for school students and students of higher educational institutes soon.

Himachal Pradesh

First on the list is Himachal Pradesh. The state has already announced the reopening of medical, ayurvedic, dental, nursing and pharmacy colleges to reopen. The medical, ayurvedic, dental colleges will reopen from June 23, meanwhile, nursing and pharmacy colleges will start offline study from June 28.

The schools and colleges will reopen in a phased manner. Students would be required to carry a written consent in order to attend the offline classes and this rule is mandated by all states. Precautionary measures like social distancing, wearing masks, washing hands and other covid norms will be mandatory for offline studies.

Jammu and Kashmir

Schools, colleges, universities, technical education institutes, skill development institutes and coaching centers will remain closed till June 30, 2021, in Jammu and Kashmir. Further decisions will be taken by assessing the covid 19 situations.

Maharashtra

As per the announcement by Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant, the MHT CET(Maharashtra Common Entrance Test) examination held for professional courses after class 12 in the state will be held either in the last week of July or the first week of August.

Punjab

According to the announcement made on May 22 by state Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla, schools- government, semi-government, and private will stay shut from May 24 to June 23. Further, the decision would be taken by assessing the covid situation in the state.

Telangana and Kerala

Telangana has extended the summer vacation period for schools and colleges till June 20 whereas Kerala has eased the restrictions in lockdown and allowed Public examinations in the state.

Karnataka

The undergraduate and postgraduate programmes for the next academic year will begin in October 2021 in Karnataka.

Tamil Nadu

So far, no announcement had been made regarding the opening of schools and colleges in Tamil Nadu. The decision would be taken by assessing the covid situation in the state.

Haryana

The Haryana government has extended summer vacation until June 30 for school students. Further, the decision would be taken by assessing the covid situation in the state.

Assam

In Assam, the state government has decided to not open any educational institutions even after summer vacation, which ended on June 14. The decision came after assessing the COVID-19 situation in the state. According to concerning authorities online classes would continue until further notice.

Uttar Pradesh

There has been no announcement regarding the opening of schools and colleges in UP. According to the earlier notice issued by the state government, schools and colleges should continue with online classes from May 20 onwards until further notice.

Odisha

So far, the state government has not taken any decision regarding the opening of schools. School and Mass Education Minister, Samir Ranjan Dash on Sunday said, “As children are at risk in the third wave of Covid-19, the government is making all infrastructure ready to face the situation. Only after reviewing the situation in the coming days, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will take the appropriate decision on the reopening of schools.
