Kuldeep Singh, 22, a boxer from Punjab who won the bronze medal at the 2018 Khelo India Youth Games and the silver in the Junior Nationals, died on Wednesday evening allegedly of a drug overdose in his hometown Talwandi Sabo in the Bathinda district of Punjab.

The young boxer, who won five medals in the Junior level division, is one of the most well-known stars in the country's junior boxing field. Additionally, Kuldeep alias Deep won two gold medals in India's national boxing competitions. The emerging talent is also due to participate in the upcoming national boxing event in 2023.

The body of the national boxing champion Kuldeep Singh was recovered near fields. A syringe was also found near his body. The boxer's family alleged that on Wednesday afternoon, some of his friends had forcibly taken Kuldeep Singh and then the locals later informed them about him lying unconscious on the road.

His father Pritam Singh said, "Pritam Singh told the police, 'My son Kuldeep Singh went to his college, from where Khushdeep Singh took him on a motorcycle. Later Khushdeep returned to the college alone and parked his bike there. When my son didn't return, we started searching for him. We buzzed Khushdeep, but he did not have a clear answer. We kept on searching for him and later his body was found on the river bank near the village."
