West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in the state has been facing major criticism on social media as well as on the ground. While Mamata Banerjee is being called out for her insensitive comments on Kolkata Rape & Murder victim, the Kolkata Police is being called out for botching up the rape & murder case of a trainee doctor. In multiple states of India people are carrying out candle marches in solidarity with the victim of the Kolkata rape & murder case. Not only this, but people on social media are demanding the resignation of Mamata Banerjee from the Chief Ministerial post in West Bengal. While CBI is now investigating the case on the direction of the Calcutta High Court, the Kolkata Police is now being accused of suppressing dissent and firing FIR against netizens criticising the West Bengal Chief Minister. In the meanwhile, Kolkata Police recently arrested a female student studying BCom in Kolkata for allegedly writing an objectionable post on Mamata Banerjee and also revealing the identity of the rape & murder victim. Now, the question arises who is the BCom student arrested by Kolkata Police?
Who is Kirti Sharma & why she has been arrested?
The BCom student who has been arrested by the Kolkata Police has been identified as Kirti Sharma. As per reports, Kirti Sharma came under the scanner after TMC MP Sagarika Ghose took to her X handle and shared a screenshot of Kirti Sharma's Instagram post in which she allegedly incited people for the assassination of West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee. "Dear @DCCyberKP please check this account on Insta named Kirti Social. It reads like a death threat to @MamataOfficial," wrote TMC MP Sagarika Ghose on her X handle.
As per reports, Kirti Sharma aka kirtisocial Instagram account was also accused of disclosing the identity and photograph of the 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor who was found brutally raped and murdered at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. Kirti Sharma was arrested from her home in Lake Town on Sunday.
The Kolkata Police released a statement regarding the incident, saying, "A complaint was received regarding the accused person, having the Instagram ID 'kirtisocial,' who uploaded three Instagram stories related to the recent incident at RG Kar Hospital. The posts disclosed the picture and identity of the victim, which is highly offensive in nature. Additionally, the accused shared two stories containing offensive comments and life threats against the Hon'ble Chief Minister of West Bengal. These comments are provocative and may create social unrest and promote hatred among communities."
