1 lakh Indian jobs at risk in US: President Trump halts DEI recruitments, offices to remain closed till Jan 31

On January 20th, Donald Trump took oath as the 47th President of America. Following this, he made many big announcements and took many rapid decisions.

After the oath taking ceremony, he reached the Oval Office and signed multiple executive orders. Additionally, he cancelled a total of 78 decisions of the Biden government.

He also ordered to stop the DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) program. Following this, the jobs of one lakh Indians are in danger due to this order.

President Donald Trump has put a stop on DEI recruitments and sent all DEI employees on paid leave till 31st January. He has also ordered the closure of DEI offices in the states. A decision will be taken for DEI employees on 1st February. A report has been sought from all federal offices regarding DEI as well.

There are a total of 32 lakh federal employees in America. Out of these, 8 lakh employees work under the DEI program. About one lakh of them are Indians. This includes those who have American citizenship and those working on work H-1B visa. Indian students doing part-time jobs are not included.

The DEI program was started in America in 1960 to provide equal opportunities to all sections in employment, education and other fields. It is inspired by the ideals of then President John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King.

Federal and state governments provide employment to religious and racial minorities. Women, handicaps, third gender also get jobs through this program. All government departments have a fixed quota. America's DEI program can be called equivalent to the reservation system in India.

In America, it is mandatory for the private sector to provide jobs in the DEI program. However, Meta, Boeing, Amazon, Walmart, Target, Ford, Molson, Harley Davidson and McDonald's have announced to shut down DEI. Only two big companies including Tim Cook's Apple and retail store Costco have said that they will continue the DEI program.
