Lakha Sidhana, - gangster turned activist who is accused of his involvement in Republic Day violence and wanted by the Delhi police, was spotted at a rally in Punjab's Mehraj village on Tuesday. Mehraj village happens to be Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh’s hometown.
This gathering was organised by Sidhana himself to mark support to the farmers protesting against the Centre’s three farm laws and also demanded the release of those arrested by the police.
While referring to speculation that Delhi Police could cross state borders to try and arrest him, Sidhana said that if Delhi police come to arrest anyone in Punjab, then villagers will surround them.
Sidhana had recently posted a video on Facebook on Friday, where he said that the farmers protest has reached seven months now and has attained its peak. He has asked the people to oppose Delhi Police’s crackdown on the agitation. “The government is trying to create a fear among the farmers by registering false cases against them,” said Lakha Sidhana.
Hitting out at BKU farmer leader Rakesh Tikait, gangster-activist said that farmers' protest is now being carried out by those who are not Punjabis.
“We are organising a farmers’ gathering in Mehraj of Bhatinda on February 23,” said Lakha Sidhana and appealed to people to reach the protest in large numbers.
Lakha Sidhana was about to be caught by the Delhi police from the Singhu border area on R-Day but the tractor rally crowd overtook and he managed to escape and also had switched off his mobile phone. Since then Sidhana’s who is absconding, his hunt is on in Punjab districts.
