'Last Indian PM who..': Dhruv Rathee takes a jibe at PM Modi after Dr. Manmohan Singh's death

Dr. Manmohan Singh, the former Indian Prime Minister was admitted to Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after his health deteriorated.

India went into a state of deep sorrow after former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh passed away at the age of 92. Dr. Manmohan Singh breathed his last on last Thursday night at Delhi AIIMS. The former Indian Prime Minister was admitted to Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after his health deteriorated. The 92-year-old former Prime Minister was brought to the emergency department of the hospital, around 8 pm. After Dr. Manmohan Singh's death condolence messages started to pour in for the former Indian Prime Minister. 

Controversial YouTuber and influencer Dhruv Rathee also took to his X handle and penned a heartful note for Dr. Manmohan Singh. Rathee also jibed at PM Narendra Modi over his no-press-conference stance. Rathee wrote, "Dr. Manmohan Singh (1932 - 2024)  He made India the fastest growing economy, gave us Right to Education Act, Right to Information Act, secured the nuclear deal and ensured free and independent media. He was also the last Indian prime minister to give a press conference in 2014."

Seven-day national mourning announced in India

The Central government has announced seven days of national mourning as a mark of respect to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. As per reports, the last rites of the former Prime Minister will be conducted with full state honours. It has been learned that all government programmes scheduled for Friday will be cancelled and the Union Cabinet would hold a meeting at 11 a.m. The National Flag will be flown at half-mast on the days of mourning throughout India on all buildings where it is flown regularly and there will be no official entertainment on the days during the period of national mourning.

Dr. Manmohan Singh, who served as the country's Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, was known for his transformative role in steering India’s economy through a period of significant liberalisation.

He is survived by his wife, Gursharan Kaur, and their three daughters. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced soon, with the nation’s leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expected to participate in honouring his memory. Dr. Singh's death marks the end of an era in Indian politics. His leadership and legacy will continue to inspire future generations.

In April this year, Manmohan Singh retired from Rajya Sabha, with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge praising his long parliamentary career.
