HBO on Thursday announced the much-awaited The Last of US Season 2 release date and it broke the internet in America and around the world. The Last of US is a fictional post-apocalyptic series that revolves around Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Elli (Bella Ramsey) and their struggle to survive a world full of zombies- courtesy of the Cordyceps outbreak. Adaptation of a video game, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann created The Last of Us for HBO TV. Season 1 was aired in 2023 and ever since then, fans have been eagerly waiting for the critically acclaimed series. The Last of US Season 2 OTT Release date
Stream on Max announced that The Last of US Season 2 will start streaming on April 13, 2025. In India, The Last of US Season 2 will stream on JioHotstar. It's season 1 was aired on Jio Cinema. However, since Jio and Disney Plus Hotstar have now merged, The Last of US Season 2 will air on JioHotstar.
The Last of US Season 2 teaser has also been released by Max. In the teaser, Joel can be seen not doing mentally well for what he did with Elli in season 1. For those who haven't watched The Last of US Season 2 Season 1 finale, Ellie remembered the lists of other deaths in her life- Tess (Anna Torv). Sam (Keivonn Montreal Woodard). Henry (Lamar Johnson). Joel tries to convince her that none of these were her fault, but Ellie cuts him off.
“Swear to me. Swear to me that everything you said about the Fireflies is true,” Ellie demands. Joel makes eye contact with her and swears. There are plenty of reasons why Joel lied to Ellie about saving her from the Fireflies. He did not want her to carry the weight of all the people he killed to save her or, for that matter, the weight of humanity. Selfishly, he doesn’t want to lose the only person who’s made his life worthwhile in decades.
Who are the Super-Infected?
If you are aware of the game, you must know that there are different kinds of zombies, and Ellie during her discussion mentioned the description of the 'Super Infected'. Talking to Tess and Joel, Ellie says, "So there aren’t superinfected that explode fungus spores on you?...Or ones with split-open heads that see in the dark like bats?"
Going by what Ellie described and asked, the two kinds of Super Infected will indeed emerge in the upcoming episodes. Like Ellie described, the first Super-Infected explodes fungus spores on you, while the second kind is like a bat that has the ability to see in the dark. Interestingly, The Last of Us Ep 2 shows that the normal infected ones cannot see and they only have the ability to listen. When Joel, Tess, and Ellie encountered the zombies in the museum it became evidently clear. However, during their encounter Tess gets infected.
