Amid the rising student suicide rate in India, a girl from Jalandhar studying in Class 12 died by suicide after chatting with her friend on WhatsApp. The disturbing incident took place in Kot Bahadur Khan near Rainak Bazar under police station 4 of Jalandhar. The girl first talked with her friend on WhatsApp and then died by suicide by hanging herself from the fan. The deceased has been identified as Niharika, a resident of Kot Bahadur Khan. She was studying commerce in Class 12th. The police have taken the body into custody and started an investigation on the statements of the family. During the investigation, the police took the girl's mobile into custody and sent it for forensic investigation.
The deceased's father Vipin Kumar revealed that his daughter was good in studies. She was afraid of going to school for the last few days and she was not talking to anyone at home. When he reached home on Thursday night at around 9 o'clock, his wife told him that Niharika was not opening the door of her room. The deceased's mother was knocking on the door for a long time. Vipin then opened the door with the help of the family and found his daughter hanging from the fan.
With the help of nearby people, he took his daughter to the hospital for treatment, where doctors declared her dead. People present at the scene informed the police of Thana 4. Thana 4 in charge Hardev Singh reached the spot and during investigation, seized the girl's mobile and sent it for forensic investigation. During the investigation, it was found that the girl had talked to her friend about a 'Madam' (teacher) on chat at the last moment.

As per the remaining chats, the friend's mobile got switched off and she did not reply for some time. However, when her phone was switched on, she again texted her, but Niharika did not reply.
A separate report suggests that the deceased's mother revealed that two teachers of the school used to insult her for not paying the fees and also threatened her due to which the deceased girl was not going to school. Currently, the Police are trying to trace the location of the friend she chatted with before taking her own life. Further investigation is underway.
