The research related to life on Mars is still going on, now some scientists have claimed that human beings can reproduce on the Red planet. According to the new research conducted by the scientist, sperm can survive on Mars for more than 200 years.

Earlier, scientists believed that space radiation on the red planet would damage DNA and reproduction was impossible. But now, even after keeping rats sperms for six years on the International Space Station, it was found to be healthy.

Samples kept on the International Space Station:

Samples of 66 rats were placed in more than 30 glass ampoules in the year 2012. After this scientists decided to produce a child from the best sample, therefore, on August 4, 2013, three samples were kept in the International Space Station in Tsukuba, Japan under similar conditions with multiple radiations.

The first sample was brought back to normal conditions on May 19, 2014, the second sample was brought on May 11, 2016, and the third was back on June 3, 2019. After bringing back to normal conditions (like earth) the experts used RNA sequencing to see how much radiation has reached in the samples.

It was reported that the ISS trip did not make any change in the nucleus of sperm. Later the sperm were sent to dry-freezing was rehydrated and then injected into fresh ovary cells.

According to Professor Sayaka Wakayama, after injection of sperms normal babies were born, without any defect. Professor said that it is an important discovery for human civilization.

This report is published in a journal – “Science Advances.”
