On Monday, the nation celebrated the 94th birth anniversary of former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishan Advani. LK Advani is one of the most prominent leaders of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), his long career is almost synonymous with that of BJP.
Advani, together with the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, transformed the BJP from a minor party with a small base into one that swept broad swaths of northern, central, and western India. The Lal Krishna Advani period may have ended some years ago, when he joined the BJP's Margdarshak Mandal and did not run in the 2019 Lok Sabha election, but his life narrative is in many respects the chronicle of the BJP.
