The Election Commission on Sunday, announced the election schedule for the general elections 2019. The Election Commission has announced various measures to ensure that better candidate wins. One of such measure includes mandatory advertisement of their criminal antecedents in newspapers and TV at least three times during election campaigns.
It was in last October that the directions for this move were announced. It will be for the first time that these measures will be inroduced in the forthcoming Lok Sabha Elections scheduled o be held from April 11 to May 19.

For the first time, the political parties will have to make their criminal records of their candidates public. This will undoubtedly affect the candidates with criminal records getting tickets.
The candidates will have to fill an amended form number 26. They will have to inform their parties about their criminal records and cases in which they have been convicted along with the cases where the trials are pending. The EC has informed that all political parties will be “obliged” to upload the candidates’ criminal records on their website.
