In December this year, banks will remain closed on many days due to an extended list of holidays. According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) bank holiday calendar, a total of 17 bank holidays will be observed across the country due to national and regional holidays. Key festivals such as Christmas and Goa Liberation Day will be celebrated during this period.
In addition to these, banks will also remain closed on all Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. Let’s take a look at which states and dates will observe bank holidays and for which reasons:

1. 1st December (Sunday): Banks will remain closed across the country due to Sunday.
2. 3rd December (Friday): Goa will observe a holiday for St. Francis Xavier’s Feast.
3. 8th December (Sunday): Banks will remain closed across the country due to Sunday.
4. 12th December (Tuesday): Meghalaya will observe a holiday for Pa-Togan Nengminja Sangma.
5. 14th December (Saturday): Banks will remain closed across the country due to the second Saturday.
6. 15th December (Sunday): Banks will remain closed across the country due to Sunday.
7. 18th December (Wednesday): Meghalaya will observe a holiday for U So So Tham’s death anniversary.
8. 19th December (Thursday): Goa Liberation Day will be observed in Goa, and banks will remain closed.
9. 22nd December (Sunday): Banks will remain closed across the country due to Sunday.
10. 24th December (Thursday): Banks will remain closed in Mizoram, Nagaland, and Meghalaya for Christmas Eve.
11. 25th December (Wednesday): Christmas will be observed nationwide, and all banks will be closed.
12. 26th December (Thursday): Banks will remain closed in Mizoram, Nagaland, and Meghalaya for Christmas celebrations.
13. 27th December (Friday): Nagaland will observe Christmas celebrations, and banks will remain closed.
14. 28th December (Saturday): Banks will remain closed across the country due to the fourth Saturday.
15. 29th December (Sunday): Banks will remain closed across the country due to Sunday.
16. 30th December (Monday): Meghalaya will observe a holiday for U Kiang Nangbah.
17. 31st December (Tuesday): Banks will remain closed in Mizoram and Sikkim for New Year’s Eve/Losong/Namsong.
Despite these holidays, customers can still carry out banking transactions via digital methods such as UPI, IMPS, and net banking. Online banking platforms and mobile apps will allow customers to perform transactions like ordering check books, paying bills, recharging phones, transferring money, booking hotels and tickets, and more. Services like stopping cheques can also be done easily via digital banking. Customers only need to log in to their bank’s website or mobile banking app and complete their transactions with just a few clicks.
