Chawla was signed by Mumbai Indians in the auction this year after being released by Chennai Super Kings. He is a seasoned campaigner in the Indian Premier League. Due to Rahul Chahar's excellent form for Mumbai, he had to stay out the first half of the season.

Chawla, one of the most dominant wicket-takers in IPL history, had an average season for CSK last year after being purchased for a whopping Rs 6.75 crore. The senior leg-spinner returned to the UAE with just six wickets in seven matches and was released ahead of the auction.
