Notably, the murder by Candy Montgomery is considered to be one of the most gruesome in American history. Candy Montgomery murdered Gore after sticking her 41 times with a wood-splitting axe. The murder took place on June 13, 1980, in Wylie, Texas. As per reports, Candy Montgomery was 30 years old when she murdered Betty Gore. Candy Montgomery was married to Pat Montgomery, an electrical engineer by profession. The duo had a son and a daughter together. Soon, In 1977, Candy Montgomery along with her husband moved to Colin County, Texas. After shifting, the duo started attending the Methodist Church of Lucas where Candy Montgomery became close friends with Betty Gore, a middle school teacher. Notably, Gore used to live nearby Candy Montgomery along with her husband Allan. Interestingly, Candy Montgomery started having an extramarital affair with Betty Gore's husband Allan. On the day of Gore's killing, her husband was out of town. It is pertinent to mention here that during her trial, Candy stated that she was compelled to use an axe after Gore attempted to strike her moments before with the same weapon. Furthermore, Candy also went through a polygraph test which came out positive meaning she was not lying. Ultimately, Montgomery was found not guilty on October 30, 1980, by a jury consisting of nine women and three men.
