The so called 'love jihad' laws brought by Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand governments were challenged in the apex court. The Supreme Court permits the petitioner to club Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh governments as parties in the case. The case challenges the validity of contentious love jihad laws.
An NGO can now make Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh as parties in the case where the state laws seek to check religious conversion on the pretext of marriage for interfaith couples and more prominently known as 'love jihad'.
Supreme Court of India bench, headed by Chief Justice of India, SA Bobde also allowed Jamiat-Ulema-E-Hind to intervene and become party in the petition. It becomes party on the grounds that large number of Muslims are being harassed due to these laws.
Jamiat-Ulema-E-Hind is a body of Islamic scholars. It will implead now as a respondent in the petitions challenging the laws made by UP, Uttarakhand and other states.
At a time when the court was considering two Public Interest Litigation's (PIL) challenging the 'love jihad' laws, the CJI agreed to allow hearging the application for impleadment, as per LiveLaw.

filed the PILs. These lawyers are practicing in Delhi and Mumbai based NGO.
