Lucca's World is based on a novel titled The Two Hemispheres of Luca written by none other than Barbara Anderson. The Two Hemispheres of Luca chronicle the true story of Barbara who is ready to go to any height to find treatment for her son who is suffering from Cerebral Palsy. Lucca was born with cerebral palsy because Barbara went into respiratory arrest when she was delivering him making her surgery too dangerous and complex. 

While most of the doctors in Mexico and other countries advised Barbara to start living with Lucca the way he is, she did not stop her quest to find a treatment for her son's cerebral palsy. Barbara's struggle to find treatment for her son Lucca ended in India. She came to know about Dr. Kumar and his invention cytotron which has given positive results to patients similar to Lucca.

As shown in the movie, a person named Anderson informs Barbara that Bruno Bernardi, the former Economic secretary suffered a serious cardiovascular problem that left him unable to speak or walk. However, he underwent treatment with a Medical Doctor who works in India and he’s recovered now. The name of the Doctor who treated Bruno is none other than Dr. Kumar.
