Rachael Harris, who plays Dr. Linda Martin, has spoken out about her "gut-wrenching" Lucifer story.

Her character was depicted making an extraordinary sacrifice for her own daughter Adriana Nasar, whom she had put up for adoption as a teenager, halfway through Season 5B.

Concerned that Adriana had been implicated in a murder, Linda confessed to the crime herself, joining the two in prison (both were eventually exonerated) and revealing their familial link.

Harris spoke with TVLine about her immediate response to reading the script as she reflected on this incredibly emotional episode.

She stated, "I was really looking forward to that because it was so lovely to have the storyline all wrapped up in one episode. And I like Linda's conflicted approach to helping her daughter."

"It was weird and amazing to be able to do that since my children were so young at the time, and I couldn't imagine not knowing them and how awful it would be."

"I have a lot of feelings," the star continued, "and if I had to put myself in a situation like 'what if for some reason I can't take care of them, and then I later meet them.'" I was grateful that they offered me the story because the notion was gut-wrenching.

"While editing the episode, director Richard Speight kept repeating, 'Oh my my, I can't wait for you to see this episode,' which was really great to hear."

She later commented on her character's willingness to go to such measures to defend a child she had never met.

"Linda's guilt and everyday memories that she had abandoned a daughter haunted her, and her empathic nature made her continually wonder what Adriana was thinking and suffering. Coming from that background, I found it entirely possible that she would go to such measures to defend her daughter's life."
