In what can be said as 'rarest of rare', two brothers hailing from Ludhiana recently returned to Punjab after giving up the Canadian PR they got in 2020. Yes! you heard it right. Dharamveer Singh and Arshveer Singh, hailing from the village of Detwal, Ludhiana, gave up their Permanent Residency (PR) in Canada and returned to their hometown to join their family's agricultural business.
As per the information received, Dharamveer and Ashveer moved to Canada in 2015 for studies. Both of them completed their studies in Canada and thereafter started working on a work permit, driving trucks to support themselves.
Dharamveer and Arshveer stated that despite living a good life and receiving Canadian citizenship (PR) in 2020, they found themselves living a 'mechanical life'. They felt disconnected from their family and the lively cultural environment of Punjab, which ultimately led them to make the decision to return to India.
The brothers further informed that they completed a diploma in Mechanical Engineering in Canada. Despite the opportunities, the brothers felt homesick and lack of familial warmth in Canada. The brothers emphasized that they now plan to contribute to the family’s farming legacy in India, a business that their father has been managing for years.
Dharamveer and Ashveer's father expressed that he had always worried about his sons working in Canada, operating trucks instead of being involved in the family’s agricultural business. However, with the brothers’ return, he is now hopeful about expanding the family business with their help. Both Dharamveer and Arshveer are confident that they can achieve financial success in India.
