A massive explosion took place inside a court complex in Punjab's Ludhiana on Thursday. The blast has caused an atmosphere of chaos in poll-bound Punjab. A police team has been rushed to the spot and an investigation is underway.
The explosion took place in a washroom on the second floor near Court number 9. The building's second-floor has eight courtrooms, but due to a strike by a group of lawyers, only a few people were there on Thursday. The blast was so powerful that it shattered glass panes in adjoining rooms and damaged the bathroom walls.
According to sources, two people have been killed in the blast and at least four are reported injured. Advocate RS Mand has been identified as one of those injured.
The eye-witness narrated the scary scene about the horrifying incident. "There's a body inside. There is no security system in court, anybody can come and go. A man has died. I myself saw the dead body. I touched it, he was dead," he said.
The lawyers present on the spot have raised concerns about the court's security system. A lawyer said, “There is a dead body lying inside… there has been a blast… there is no system in the court… No bar here, no restriction. Whoever wants to, comes inside.”
After the preliminary investigation, it was revealed that this blast might have been executed by a human bomb. The deceased whose body was found in the Court’s washroom was the prime suspect of the blast.
“The identity of a possible suspect, whose body was found at the explosion site, is being ascertained. 4 persons injured are in stable condition. The bomb disposal squad is at the site. The police are conducting a search at the Court complex. A team of NSG is also coming here,” said Ludhiana CP, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar.
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal also condemned the incident and said, “First sacrilege, now blast. Some people want to disturb the peace of Punjab. Three crore people of Punjab will not allow their plans to succeed.”
