A 40-year-old man from Ludhiana reportedly killed himself by self-immolating near Habowal late last night. Sources report that the deceased was HIV positive. The man, identified as Manoj, reportedly set himself on fire after laying down on a pyre that he himself made from wood. His screams were heard by the neighbours who managed to pull his badly burnt body out of the room where the pyre was, but he unfortunately succumbed a few moments later.
The neighbours promptly informed the police, who promptly arrived at the scene. The neighbours also inform that Manoj used to live alone and was struggling with mental difficulties from quite a long time. He was also unemployed. It is not yet clear as to why he committed this act.
The Habowal Police station personnel arrived at the scene and took the body into custody, they inform that the body of the deceased is being kept in the civil hospital mortuary for postmortem. The confirmation of whether the deceased was HIV positive will come following the postmortem.
